The Process / How It Works

Welcome to our photo session! We are thrilled to have you on board, and we understand that you might have a few questions about how everything works. In this guide, we will walk you through the entire process, share some useful tricks and tips, and ensure that you have an amazing experience with us. Let’s dive in and make sure you’re well-prepared for a fantastic photo session!

The Process

Sometimes a little checklist is just what you need as you are running out the door to your senior session. Check out this senior session checklist to make sure you are ready to rock your senior session.

This one probably feels pretty obvious but here are some tips to make the most of packing your outfits.

1. Outfits – How to Pack for Success

  • Give yourself plenty of time to get ready. Make sure your hands and nails are clean, teeth brushed, eyebrows groomed…all of the little things matter when this photo will be enlarged and hung on your parents’ wall for decades to come!
  • Wear your first outfit on the way to your session. If you are not sure what to wear first, come in something easy to change out of. Don’t forget the shoes!
  • Pack your clothes in a garment bag or hanging. It might be tempting to throw them all in a duffle bag, but that can cause unwanted wrinkling and makes it harder to find what you are looking for.
  • Use zipper bags or other easily organized containers to keep your accessories for each outfit organized and easy to access.
  • We recommend going on Pinterest and searching for “Senior Photo Shoot outfit ideas.”
  • We’ll look over your outfits and choose the order that you’ll change into them.

We will guide you through posing (that’s my job!) so don’t worry if you don’t know what to do.

BONUS OUTFIT TIP:  We recommend 3-4 outfits. Pick a casual outfit, a dressy outfit, something that shows off your personality (sports outfit, etc.), and something bold. I recommend having at least one look your parents approve of or even chooses.

2. Touch Up Makeup

Bring along a loose powder to absorb any sweat, some extra lip gloss, and any other applicable makeup you may want to touch up in case of sweat or accidentally rubbing off when changing, etc.

3. Comfy Shoes

It’s always a good idea to bring along a pair of comfy shoes. Sometimes we do a little walking to and from locations around the farm and surrounding areas and it’s nice to have a pair of flip flops or other easy-to-slip-on comfy shoes to wear rather than your cute heels.

4. Water & Snacks

There is nothing worse than the mid-photoshoot munchies. Modeling is hard work and having some of your favorite snacks on hand can help keep your energy up for the whole session.

Tips & Tricks

Ready for some quick senior picture tips!? Everyone wants to look their best in their pictures whether it be an iPhone selfie or a professional photo shoot. Here are 5 quick easy tips to help you look your best the next time you have your photo taken.

1. HAC instead of flat foundation

Using this simple highlight and contour (HAC) foundation technique helps define your cheek and jawline, giving you that Hollywood look. Not sure what it is? Do a quick google search, there are tons of tutorials out there and it is easier than it sounds!

2. Remove the hairbands

This one is super simple, just remember to slip off your hairbands on the way to your session. Or even better, avoid wearing your hairbands for a few hours prior to your session to avoid those dreaded imprints. And bonus, if you are an avid watch wearer, be sure to spend some time in the sun without your watch to avoid the apple watch tan line.

3. Pick fitted but not overly tight clothing for your senior pictures

Extra baggy outfits can hide your shape and skintight outfits can bring attention to any flaws or undergarment straps. Finding that balance sometimes feels like an impossible task, but well worth it when you find your perfect match. Remember the proper under garments. Try not to have straps showing.

4. Add accessories to define your style!

This simple trick can take your photos from ordinary to wow, do not underestimate the power of a bold necklace, stunning shoes, or other accessories. Bring layers, light jackets, scarf, sweaters.

5. Dress it up a notch

Your style is everything and dressing it up a bit adds an extra layer of class and style to your senior pictures. This lovely sequin dress is available for you to wear in the style closest. Just let me know at your session if you want to try this or one of the other outfits on.

Bonus Tip!

Want your senior pictures to be extra “you”?  Incorporate your personality by bringing along props that represent your favorite hobbies or sports to include in your pictures.  This helps make your session interesting and uniquely you!

Mini-Session vs. Full Photo Session: What’s the Difference?

Hey there! We get so many questions about mini-sessions versus full-blown photoshoots, so we thought we’d share some insights with you. Picture this:

Mini-session Magic:

So, first things first – mini-sessions are like a whirlwind of fun! They’re short and sweet, lasting just 15-20 minutes. It’s all about capturing those quick, snazzy family moments – perfect for creating those adorable holiday cards and surprise photo gifts for your loved ones. Think of it as a lively portrait party!

Full sessions, on the other hand are more like a grand adventure. They can last from 1-2 hours, giving us plenty of time to explore different angles and styles, resulting in a gallery filled with diverse, vibrant photos.

Location Galore:

With mini-sessions, we, the photographers, get creative and pick out the coolest spots! It’s like a mini-tour of our favorite photography locations. But hey, with full sessions, the power is in your hands! You get to choose the spot that sings to your heart, making your session a truly personalized experience.

Price Tag Cheer:

Mini-sessions are budget-friendly delights! Because they’re shorter and come with a smaller selection of photos, they’re lighter on the wallet. It’s the perfect opportunity to get a taste of working with a professional photographer without the hefty price tag. Great photos that don’t break the bank? Count us in!

Quick & Quirky Moments:

Mini-sessions are all about capturing those rapid, quirky moments. We’re like cheerful ninjas, swiftly snapping those delightful expressions and spontaneous giggles. However, if you prefer a slower, more relaxed pace, especially for shy kiddos, a full session might be the way to go. We’ll take our time, ensuring everyone feels at ease, resulting in beautifully natural shots.

Snap-happy Variety:

Mini-sessions are a treasure trove of updated family photos, ideal for dazzling holiday cards and heartwarming gifts. But if you dream of creating a stunning family wall gallery or putting together a yearly album, a full session is your golden ticket. Why? Because it’s a creative extravaganza! From candid moments to classy headshots, we collaborate with you, capturing the essence of your unique story.
